EDITOR’S NOTE: Considering the debilitating effect the pandemic has had on the educational sector, one could erroneously conclude that nothing is happening in the sector. This could not be further from the truth. In this issue, #EduCaribbean presents developments in academia: good and bad.
These are typically positive, like: a new course in water adaptation and research at the University of Technology, Jamaica; or, launch of a new Psilocybin laboratory, and introduction of a cryogenics engineering course at the University of the West Indies Mona Campus, Jamaica; or, introduction of smart classrooms into Guyanese high schools.
But unfortunately, developments can also be negative, like the striking of the Federation of Associations of Teachers at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. However, this is not the norm. And, developments have for the most part been positive under extremely trying circumstances. This is a credit to the leadership in the respective institutions; Caribbean governments as a whole, most notably Guyana; and private entities in Jamaica and abroad.
