This issue begins a series on Transport Infrastructure in the Caribbean. #InfrastruCaribe first takes a look at the road network in three nations: The Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and Guyana. In the Dominican Republic, a new suspension bridge is proposed to replace the the floating barge on the Ozama River. Otherwise, two presentations are made for each of the other nations.
For Jamaica, what will be their largest bridge is proposed to span the Rio Minho; and, work continues on their south coast highway. Both are being done under the Southern Coastal Highway Improvement Project (SCHIP). For Guyana, US$128 million has been budgeted for the development of their roads and bridges. And finally, 30 international companies have submitted expressions of interest for the design of the bridge that is to link Guyana and Suriname.
