EDITOR’S NOTE: In February, #EduCaribbean featured sports in edition 2021-02-15 of its newsletter. We again do so. Four of the five articles are on athletics; the remaining article on cricket. The majority of these articles are on athletics in Jamaica. One is on athletics in the Cayman Islands. And, the article on cricket is from Guyana. Additional content can be found in our new Twitter feed @Caribbean_edu.
Our headline taken from the Jamaica Gleaner reads: “ISSA Still Awaiting Government Correspondence On Champs”. It speaks of the Inter-Secondary Schools Association (ISSA) seeking the guidance of the Jamaican government on any changes that may be required for the staging of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships (Champs).
Otherwise, Jamaica’s corporate area secondary schools participated in the two-day Anthrick Corporate Area Development Meet at the National Stadium. Jamaican collegiate athletes based in the U.S. also had three wins in individual events, and four top-three finishes at the NCAA Division One Indoor Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Outside of Jamaica, the John Gray High School successfully defended their title against 12 other schools at the recent Inter-Secondary School Sports Championships at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex, Cayman. And, Guyana’s youth cricketer — Matthew Nandu — secured sponsorship from apparel giant, Adidas, while studying online at Wilfrid Laurier University, Canada.
