EDITOR’S NOTE: In March, #EduCaribean looked at examinations in the Caribbean in our edition 2021-03-11. This newsletter re-visits this topic. We cover four locations, namely: The Bahamas, Trinidad, Cayman Islands, and Jamaica. Two of the five articles are from the latter. But, each of the other locations has one article apiece.
Our headline, taken from The Bahamas Weekly, reads: “Moratorium Lifted On International Scholarships, National Exams Commence Mid-April”. It speaks of the setting of the National exams to begin on April 13, and the rescinding of the moratorium on international scholarships so Bahamian students can now apply for scholarships to study internationally.
In Trinidad, Secondary Entrance Assessment students will not return for face-to-face classes in the new term. Only Upper-form secondary school students will be allowed to have such classes. Regionally, Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations normally held in May/June will now be held between 1 June to 16 July.
The Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) will also be held during these dates. A special provision has however been made permitting CXC students to contemplate deferring the 2021 sitting of written exams only to next year. And, the deadline for this is May 1. But, the school-based assessments will still have to be submitted this year.
