IslandsCaribbean Weekend ed. 2021-04-16

EDITOR’S NOTE: In March, #IslandsCaribbean took a look at facility developments in the Caribbean hospitality sector in our edition 2021-03-19. This newsletter re-visits this topic. Four destinations are covered, namely: Jamaica, Barbados, Belize, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Two articles concern the latter destination. But, the other destinations each have one article apiece.

Our headline, taken from Travel Agent Central, reads: “Sandals Royal Caribbean Adds New Rooms, Completes Reno”. It speaks to new amenities and a 48 room addition to the Sandals Royal Caribbean in Montego Bay, Jamaica. These additions increase the resort’s bed capacity to 280, and concludes refurbishment of the facility.

Articles for Barbados and Belize both concern Wyndham Hotels and Resorts. The 450-room Wyndham Grand Hotel is under construction in Barbados and is scheduled for completion by the end of this year. In contrast, the private-island boutique resort — Turtle Island Beach Resort — is Wyndham’s third resort property to be opened in Belize.

Similarly, Little Gem Resorts has opened its third resort — Lovango Resort + Beach Club — in the U.S. Virgin Islands. This development is notably the first new resort constructed at that destination in over 30 years. Finally, construction of the Frenchman’s Reef Marriott Resort and Noni Beach Resort has been suspended, and is now up for sale.
