InfrastruCaribe Weekday ed. 2021-04-20

NWC at work

EDITOR’S NOTE: Towards the end of March, #InfrastruCaribe began a series on Caribbean transport infrastructure: starting with ground transport in edition 2021-04-06 and proceeding to air. This newsletter concludes the series with sea transport. With the likely restart of the cruise industry in the third quarter, four of our five articles are on cruise infrastructure.

Four locations are covered, namely: Jamaica, The Bahamas, British Virgin Islands, and Guyana. Our headline, taken from the Jamaica Information Service (JIS), reads: “Second Phase Of Works At Port Royal Cruise Terminal To Be Completed In 2021/22 Fiscal Year”. This involves constructing a new museum, restaurant and entertainment facilities at the Cruise Terminal.

A second such article from Jamaica tells of plans to homeport a vessel from the Norwegian Cruise Line Company. The other articles on the cruise industry range from inviting public comment on the Environmental Impact Assessment for Disney Cruise Line’s Lighthouse Point project in The Bahamas, to British Virgin Islands reopening its cruise ship ports in June.

Only the article from Guyana is not on the cruise industry. Here a joint venture between Guyanese firm, Atlantic Ventures Incorporated, and Indian firm, Alexarya Corporation International, is funding the construction of a Marine and Off-Shore Training Institute to invest in the development of Guyana’s growing Maritime Industry.
