EDITOR’S NOTE: Towards the end of January, #IslandsCaribbean looked at threats and weaknesses to the Caribbean travel industry in our edition 2021-02-05. And, the Bahamas featured heavily in that edition. In this newsletter, we feature the Bahamas alone.
Our headline, taken from the Bahamas Weekly, reads: “Bahamas Ministry Of Tourism & Aviation (BMOTA) Returns To In-Person Trade Shows Since Pandemic”. The Bahamas is the exclusive destination featured at the 47th Annual Sun ‘n Fun Aerospace Expo in Lakeland, Florida, from April 13 -18, 2021. And, BMOTA’s sales and marketing team is participating.
BMOTA has also announced that a group is interested in facilitating a collegiate event at the Grand Bahama Sports Complex, which is scheduled for March 18-20, 2022. This is proposed to be an annual event, and is presently gaining interest among colleges and professional athletes in Florida.
News coming out of the Bahamas is generally positive. Visitor arrivals were up in March. Occupancy levels in resorts also increased during this period, though neither compares to pre-pandemic levels. Lighthouse Pointe also received the World Travel & Tourism Council’s Safe Travels Stamp. But, legal wrangling with Baha Mar’s main contractor continues.
