EDITOR’S NOTE: Towards the end of February, #EduCaribbean featured students in edition 2021-03-01. We do this again in this newsletter. reference is made to three locations, namely: Jamaica, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad. One of our five articles is on the latter, Jamaica has three and shares the other with St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Our headline, taken from the Jamaica Gleaner, reads: “UWI Implements Tuition Relief For Vincentian Students”. The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona campus, Jamaica, has offered relief to its students from St. Vincentian and the Grenadines affected by the eruption of the La Soufrière volcano.

Otherwise in Jamaica, the Ardenne High School created history by successfully defending their title in the Schools Challenge Quiz (SCQ) competition. A recent study reveals challenges still being faced by families with autistic children. And, the Minister of Education is concerned with the level of student absenteeism.

The latter two are not unique to Jamaica, as is the experience of Trinidad with online learning. After a year of online learning due the pandemic, they are now seeing the detrimental effect it is having on the lives of their children, parents and teachers. There is a need to assist all stakeholders better cope with learning during this pandemic.
