EDITOR’S NOTE: At the beginning of April, #IslandsCaribbean featured digital nomads in our edition 2021-04-09. This newsletter does the same. Four destinations are featured, namely: Aruba, Puerto Rico, Dominica, and Curacao. Each has an article apiece. The fifth article has five additional Caribbean destinations, and six additional resorts.
Our headline, taken from Caribbean Journal, reads: “This Aruba Resort Will Set Up Your Office On A Private Island”. The Renaissance Aruba’s new package, called “One Happy Workation”, offers private oceanfront cabanas on it’s exclusive Renaissance Island: location of the only private beaches available in Aruba.
Relocation of U.S. citizens to Puerto Rico has been encouraged by enacting legislation exempting the paying of taxes on passive income, such as interest, dividends, and capital gains on the sale of shares. Dominica, on the other hand, has an extended-stay visa program called “Work in Nature”, which allows remote work on the island for up to 18 months.
Curaçao — a Dutch-Caribbean island — has an extended-stay program called “@Home in Curaçao”, which allows initial stays up to six months, with an option to renew for a further six months. Finally, hotels and resorts in seven destinations also offer workcation packages: six are in the Caribbean, namely: Antigua, Aruba, Belize, Grenada, St. Lucia, and The Bahamas.
