EduCaribbean Weekend ed. 2021-05-13

by | May 7, 2021

EDITOR’S NOTE: Near the beginning of April, #EduCaribbean featured Caribbean Examinations in our edition 2021-04-15. This newsletter does the same. Articles come from two countries, namely: Jamaica and Guyana. The latter has a single article and remaining four are all from Jamaica. Additional content can be found in our twitter feed: simply explore #EduCaribbean on twitter.

Our headline, taken from the Jamaica Observer, reads: “Survey Of Living Conditions Paints Dismal Picture Of Low Exam Passes”. The 2018 Jamaica Survey of Living Conditions has found that 60 per cent of persons 14 years and older who were not enrolled in any school or educational institution, also had no examination passes.

On May 10, Jamaican students scheduled to sit exit exams this year will resume face-to-face classes at their respective schools. Their peers in lower grades will return at another time, to be announced. From 15-16 June, grade five students will sit the 2021 Primary Exit Profile (PEP) examinations; and those in grade four will sit it from 29-30 June.

For Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) exams, candidates deferring exams this year will now be allowed to submit their Student Based Assessments (SBAs) in January 2022. Finally, cxcsucces.com — an online application developed by RHE-SKY-NATE — currently prepares students to sit mathematics exams at the CSEC level, and those sitting science subjects at the CAPE level.
