EDITOR’S NOTE: Just past the middle of March, #InfrastruCaribe featured Sporting/Recreation infrastructure in the Caribbean in our edition 2021-03-25. This newsletter features recreational infrastructure, as we continue our series on social infrastructure. Four countries are covered, namely: Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Guyana, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Our headline, taken from El Nuevo Dias, reads: “Housing Department Announces More Funding For The Urban Center Revitalization Program”. The Puerto Rican agency will allocate $1 billion in Community Development Block Grant for Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds to 78 municipalities for an urban center revitalization program.
Jamaica’s Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment has re-sanded their track at Caymanas Park following incidents of race-horses breaking down during exercise and on race days. In Guyana, the government has retendering Leguan stelling project, making good on its promise to resolve the issues surrounding the delayed project.
In Trinidad and Tobago, Five Islands’ Water and Amusement Park in Chaguaramas and Harry’s Water Park in Rio Claro were partly opened for Easter. Otherwise, the Chaguaramas Development Authority had closed the Macqueripe beach facility for refurbishing and reopened it two weeks later having finishing their beautification project.
