EDITOR’S NOTE: In this edition of #EduCaribbean, our newsletter features education in Haiti. As usual, we have five articles. Four of those five articles are about Haiti’s relationship with Spanish-speaking universities, including their neighbour Dominican Republic. Additional content can be found in our Twitter feed.
The fifth article is our headline, taken from Haiti Libre, which reads: “Haiti – Montreal/Quebec : Promotion Of Creole And The Cultural Heritage Of Haiti In Schools”. The Consulate General of Haiti in Montreal is committed to supporting the Association Regard fĂ©minin’s project to promote the Creole and cultural heritage of Haiti in the Schools of Montreal and Quebec.
An MOU was signed in Spain for collaboration between Haitian and Spanish Universities over the next four years. There will be collaboration in common projects, otherwise transfer of knowledge and expertise in various fields. Similarly, negotiations started in the Dominican Republic to expand cooperation and exchanges between their universities and those in Haiti.
Finally, authorities in the Dominican Republic, in consultation with their Haitian counterparts, have agreed on a special process to regularize the immigration of Haitians into the country for the purpose of higher education. Following from this, a special visa will be issued to thousands of Haitian undergraduates at universities in the Dominican Republic.
