EDITOR’S NOTE: In mid-April, #eduCaribbean featured Caribbean educational institutions in our edition 2021-04-22. In this newsletter, we do the same. Three Caribbean countries are covered, namely: Guyana, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago. Jamaica has three of the five articles. The others have one each. Our headline, taken from iNews Guyana, reads: “UG’s IDCE Introduces Six New Programmes”. The University of Guyana’s (UG’s) Institute of Distance and Continuing Education (IDCE) will introduce six new programmes in the next academic year. This is in addition to the ten new programmes being offered during the present Academic Year.
The University of the West Indies (UWI) has invited Grenada’s Prime Minister — Dr. the Right Honourable Keith Mitchell — to chair a team of technical experts reviewing the academic and administrative operations of the Vice-Chancellery. Otherwise, The University of the Commonwealth Caribbean is to begin offering University of Arizona bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
Noteworthy Jamaican high schools include Munro College, which celebrates its 165th anniversary this year. Not only has it been an indispensable contributor to the education sector, but is also a significant part of Jamaica’s heritage. And for 140 years, the Alpha Boys’ School has trained singers and musicians who have become internationally renown artistes.
