EDITOR’S NOTE: Shortly after the beginning of May, #HealthCaribbean featured travel to the Caribbean, in our edition 2021-05-13. In this newsletter, we do the same: specifically looking at changes in travel protocals for vaccinated travellers. Five countries are covered, namely: Jamaica, Cayman Islands, Nevis, Dominica, and Belize, though Jamaica’s protocol is unchanged.
Our headline, taken from the Jamaica Gleaner, reads: “Scientist Who Developed Moderna Vaccine Boosts Jamaica During MSNBC Interview”. Dr Kizzmekia Corbett — Afro-American viral immunologist, credited with developing the Moderna vaccine — explained her family relationship with Jamaica, and her desire to visit the island, on the Lawrence O’Donnell Show.
The Cayman Islands’ new COVID-19 protocols removes the requirement for returning residents to take a pre-arrival PCR coronavirus test for those who have previously been vaccinated by the Health Services Authority. In Nevis, a fully vaccinated traveler will now be required to “Vacation in Place” for nine (instead of 14) days at a travel-approved hotel.
In Dominica, fully vaccinated travellers will be transported to quarantine at a certified accommodation for a minimum of two days. Afterwards, a PCR test will be administered, and travellers must await results up to 24 hours at their lodging. Finally, Belize has discontinued the requirement for travelers to download and complete its Travel Health App prior to arrival.
