IslandsCaribbean Weekend ed. 2021-06-11

by | Jun 4, 2021

EDITOR’S NOTE: At the beginning of May, #IslandsCaribbean featured Digital Nomads in the Caribbean in our edition 2021-05-11. We do the same in this newsletter. Grenada is the only country exclusively mentioned in one article, two articles mention a number of Caribbean countries, and the remaining two refer to the Caribbean generally, as a sub-region.

Our headline, taken from frommers.com, reads: “Which Countries Are the Best—and Worst—for Digital Nomads?”. According to InsureMyTrip’s analysts, Jamaica and Bermuda are among the top ten best destinations for those seeking to relocate for around a year. Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda, and Aruba are among the ten worst destinations to relocate to.

If you are seeking to relocate for up to three months, an increasing amount of resorts offer remote-work programs, and the article from the Caribbean Journal makes suggestions from The Bahamas to Grenada. The Government of Grenada has in fact recently passed legislation allowing non-nationals to work remotely for organizations based outside of the island.

But how has the Caribbean telecoms landscape changed in the last twenty years? And, how will digital nomads positively impact change in the Caribbean technology sphere? These are questions dealt with in the two remaining articles in this newsletter. It is not just a question of what the Caribbean can do for you, but what you can do for the Caribbean.
