EDITOR’S NOTE: In this newsletter, #IslandsCaribbean features Puerto Rico for the first time. We cover topics such as events, resort re-opening, change of protocols, and ecotourism. Two of our five articles are on events. All the others have an article apiece. Additional content on this topic may now be found on our new Twitter feed (@IslandsC_bean).
Our headline, taken from Caribbean Business, reads: “World Travel and Tourism Council to Celebrate Investment and Sustainability Summit in Puerto Rico”. The World Travel and Tourism Council and the Puerto Rico Tourism Company have agreed to hold a summit on the island at the end of the year to discuss investment in sustainable tourism.
As of 25 May, fully vaccinated travelers on domestic flights are no longer required to present negative COVID-19 PCR molecular test-results for entry to the island. And, the Fairmont El San Juan Hotel now offers its guests the opportunity to re-do milestone events (such as weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, etc.) that were curtailed due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The El Conquistador Resort, which had been closed since the passing of Hurricane Maria over three years ago, opened in May. It was bought by Puerto Rico’s Royal Blue Hospitality, back in 2019. Finally, a list of four of Puerto Rico’s leading eco-tourism resorts is presented below and each resort is described to highlight what the island has to offer in this regard.
