Our headline, taken from the Dominican Today, reads: “Abinader Inaugurates 120 Megawatt Solar Energy Park”. Last week, Dominican Republic’s President — Luis Abinader — inaugurated the Girasol Solar Park — the largest renewable energy park in the Antilles — built for the power company EGE Haina at a cost of US$100-million.
A 50 MW solar park was built in the city of Baní for the largest power company — AES Dominicana Corporation — at a cost of US$60-million, with plans to install more to reach 300 MW. In 2019, a solar-powered micro-grid was installed in the southwest city of Tiburon, Haiti. The city is now one one of the few communities to have reliable 24-hour electricity supply. In April 2021, President Jovenel Moïse inaugured a photovoltaic micro-plant in Vallière, and it became another of the few to have reliable 24-hour electricity supply in Haiti.
