EDITOR’S NOTE: Mid-November 2020, #IslandsCaribbean featured The Bahamas, in our edition 2020-11-20. We do the same in this newsletter. Five resorts are covered, namely: Margaritaville Beach Resort, Grand Lucayan, Riu Palace Paradise Island, Baha Mar, and Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island. Please see our new Twitter feed (@IslandsC_bean) for more information.
Our headline, taken from the Caribbean Journal, reads: “A New Margaritaville Beach Resort Is Opening Soon in The Bahamas”. Bahamas’ own Margaritaville Beach Resort is scheduled to be opened on July 2021 on the eastern end of Junkanoo Beach, Nassau. This is the latest addition to Margaritaville’s continued expansion into the Caribbean.
Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and its ITM Group partner are hopeful of concluding negotiations for Grand Lucayan — Freeport’s former “anchor resort” property — by this summer. And, Riu Palace Paradise Island — an adults-only, all-inclusive, adjacent to the Atlantis Paradise Island resort complex on Paradise Island — was officially reopened in May.
In May, seven hundred employees were also laid off at Atlantis Paradise Island Resort, which its management attributed to the pandemic’s negative impact on travel and other economic factors. Finally, BAHA Mar Resort has announced that its $200m beachfront water park, will open exclusively to its guests on July 2, 2021.
