EDITOR’S NOTE: Three weeks ago, #IslandsCaribbean featured the Dominican Republic exclusively, in our edition 2021-06-08. We do the same in this newsletter. One article is on travel to the destination; another on the public-private project in the Southwest; and, the remainder on Punta Cana. Please see our Twitter feed for more.
Our headline, taken from the Dominican Today, reads: “Mexico Group Opens Live Aqua Beach Resort Punta Cana”. One of the leading Mexican hotel operators — Grupo Posadas — has opened its first property in the Dominican Republic — the adults-only, all-inclusive: Live Aqua Beach Resort Punta Cana Hotel.
Paradisus by Meliá officially reopening Paradisus Palma Real on 5 June. The beachfront property is located on Playa Bávaro, and has 784 oversized suites. On 15 June, their other property — formerly known as The Grand Reserve at Paradisus Palma Real — was officially re-branded as Paradisus Grand Cana.
Otherwise, the Marriott Group has expressed an interest in various areas of the country, including the public-private development being undertaken in the Southwest. And finally, the General Directorate of Passports is considering replacing traditional travel documents with electronic passports next year.
