Hoteliers rejoice: 50% occupancy in November
The tourism sector welcomes November with good news: hotel rooms have had an occupancy increase of between 30% and 50%, compared to October, according to Dominican Republic Hotels and Tourism Association (Asonahores) president Paola Rainieri.
Depending on the area of the country, some hotels have reached their peak, as is the case in Punta Cana, as confirmed by a travel agency. The increase in occupancy in hotel rooms for this month is related to the holiday weekend for the Dominican Constitution Day

Royalton is reopening its Saint Lucia resorts for the winter season, according to parent company Blue Diamond Resorts.
On Nov. 1, two Royalton-branded resorts will relaunch: Hideaway at Royalton Saint Lucia and the Royalton Saint Lucia Resort and Spa.
The Mystique Saint Lucia resort will open Dec. 1.
A fourth Blue Diamond property in Saint Lucia, the Starfish Saint Lucia, is slated to reopen its doors on Dec. 15.

Professor John Agard, a leading scientist from the Department of Life Sciences at The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, has been appointed by UN Secretary-General, António Guterres to help draft the 2023 Global Sustainable Development Report.
Agard joins a diverse group of 15 independent scientists around the world, representing a wide range of disciplines, expertise and backgrounds, who will work as a team on preparing the report. He is the only scientist from the Caribbean region and will co-chair this group of eminent scholars. #UWI #TT

Vice-Chancellor of The University of the West Indies (UWI), Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, has proposed to establish a US$600-million multi-donor trust fund to prevent systemic decline in the region’s higher education and research sector.
The proposal was made on Wednesday, October 14, at the first-ever virtual Development Partner Forum focused on ‘Investing in higher education to build more diversified and resilient post-COVID economies’ and was organized jointly with the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).

Field Hospital In Falmouth To Be Completed By November 30
Health and Wellness Minister, Dr Christopher Tufton, says the field hospital being erected on the grounds of the Falmouth Public General Hospital in Trelawny is on track for completion by November 30.

A healthcare facility in the Cayman Islands has been granted permission to enter into phase one of a clinical trial of a #COVID19 #vaccine.
The facility – Persues Cayman Islands Limited, is now looking for 20 volunteers from across the territory for the first phase of the human trials.

Cuba now has a second #COVID19 #vaccine candidate after the IFV presented SOBERANA01 in August, which is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as the only one produced as of today by a Latin American country.
The first phase of the trials aims to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of different formulations and dosage schedules. IFV stated that the vaccine with the best results will advance to higher phases of clinical trials.
The study will involve both the SOBERANA 01 and the new candidate, which as of now is officially called FINLAY-FR-1A, but is expected to be named SOBERANA 01A as the tests progress. #CU
