EDITOR’S NOTE: As the world grapples with the COVID-19 pandemic, it is understandable that much effort is being made to expand or rehabilitate the existing healthcare infrastructure to avoid overwhelming the system and to maintain normal patient and support services.
Therefore, #InfrastruCaribe examines the development of the Caribbean Healthcare infrastructure in this edition. Examples are taken from Jamaica and Guyana. In the former, works are underway to rehabilitate the Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay (which is the header image on all #HealthCaribbean editions); and expand the building to accommodate a Adolescent and Paediatric Hospital.
Additional wards are also being constructed at two other hospitals on the island to accommodate COVID patients. In Guyana, this is being done through erection of a field hospital donated by Qatar.
