In our last issue, #InfrastruCaribe continued the series on utilities and presented part 1 of a two part presentation on energy infrastructure. In that issue, the predominant energy source was natural gas. In this issue, sources are varied but all are renewable. They range from hydro-power in Guyana, wind in Jamaica, wind and solar in the Dominican Republic, to hydrogen in Trinidad.

Our feature article is “NewGen Energy plans ‘green’ power facility” by Ria Chaitram, of Trinidad and Tobago’s Newsday. It explains a NewGen Energy’s project which seeks to utilize waste heat produced at Trinidad and Tobago’s power plants to produce hydrogen: itself a clean source of energy particularly useful in long distance and heavy transport such as shipping, and heating and power generation.

Two articles are dedicated to the existing publicly traded Wigton Wind Farms. the remaining two are on proposals: the intended restart of effort to develop 165-MW hydroelectric power plant at the Amaila Falls, Guyana; and, the award of 10 contracts with the government of the Dominican Republic for the purchase and sale of renewable energy generated from photovoltaics and wind farms.
