EDITOR’S NOTE: Towards the end of May, #eduCaribbean featured Caribbean institutions in our edition 2021-05-31. We do the same in this newsletter. The region as a whole and two Caribbean countries are covered, namely: Barbados and Jamaica. Jamaica has one article and the others two apiece.

Our headline, taken from the Jamaica Gleaner, reads: “CXC and US University Sign Agreement to have CAPE Qualifications Recognised”. The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) has signed a MOU with the Western Illinois University that will see the regional exam body being recognized by that institution.

All Barbadian schools, with the exception of Grantley Adams Memorial, returned to their regular academic schedule on Friday, June 18. Otherwise, The UK-based Malvern College —  an international boarding and day school for students from 13 to 18 years old — is set to open a campus in Barbados in 2023.

Early in June, Jamaica’s Education Minister — Fayval Williams — tabled in Parliament what has been described as a “damning” report on the future of The University of the West Indies. Finally, University of the Commonwealth Caribbean has spun off several business activities into subsidiaries this year.
